I’ve been teaching/assisting for: 10+ Years
I first became introduced to yoga in 2005 during my first year of college. I was coming out of the world of competitive sports and needing something that didn't involve competing against another person. After that first class, I knew I had found the remedy for all that my body and mind had suffered in the years prior. From then on, I immersed myself in all that I could. Books, classes, workshops, dvds (yes, it was THAT long ago) and youtube videos. I became fascinated with the spiritual and philosophical aspect but during that time, I was mainly practicing intense and vigorous styles of asana. Eventually, the pull towards teaching became such that in 2011 I applied for teacher training in my hometown of St. Petersburg, FL. Shortly after graduating, I moved out west and have since taught yoga full time, integrated decades of movement practice and education, taught thousands of hours of classes and workshops to help build our local yoga community; all while staying committed to my own studentship. My style is a unique culmination of lifelong study, sustainable practice and sincere effort, further shaped and influenced by my own teachers; Janet Stone, Kathryn Budig, Carling Harps, Bernie Clark, Judith Lasater, Vie Binga and Harvey Deutch PT.
I am most experienced in:
-Being authentic. Teaching from the heart, with presence and curiosity. Listening. Creating a space for students to show up in whatever form or however vulnerable
and feel connected to the parts of themselves that have been forgotten, hurt, disempowered or completely left behind. I love to incorporate storytelling, readings, poems that take students beyond the asana. My classes are deeply inspired by natural cycles, the elements, the moon and cosmos, and any type of musical vibration. Since 2020 I have learned to play the harmonium and started to incorporate more Bhakti into my offerings.
-Clear and effective cuing to a wide range of students in flow and especially in transition. Creative and Intelligent sequencing. Anatomy and Physiology. Language of Yoga. Regardless of style, I tend to sequence classes in a way that gives the entire class a pulse. Like one, big steady heartbeat. Whether we are workshopping inversions or melting into a restorative shape, there is always purpose. I often integrate energetic and subtle body systems, principles of Ayurveda and TCM into my teachings and study.
-Curating an experience. Non-verbal communication. Seeing bodies, beyond the surface. Building studentship and trust. Being able to meet students where they
are, physically, energetically and emotionally. I love to teach and discover fun new ways to incorporate props and modifications for accessibility and awareness. Breaking the ice or challenging moments with a corny joke (to strengthen the funny bone).
I am committed to studying and deepening my practice in…
Showing up. Compassion. Discomfort. Trusting the process.
My mind and rhythms are constantly adapting, shifting and transforming. I am drawn in and drawn out and my practice is to keep showing up and keep disrupting the story. So my practice and interests ebbs and flows in terms of what I am committed to. Overall I am committed to healing and growth. And self love. Acceptance and gratitude.
I would like to incorporate more subtle body work, maybe the addition of sound healing or live music. Meditation and Pranayama for anxiety and stress management. Post-natal Yoga and Birth support is always something I’ve been drawn to but have yet to explore.
My mentoring style or approach is…
Supportive and Nurturing. Reflective and encouraging. Like a big sister, I strive to meet the intentions and desires of those that I get to work with while guiding them towards their own inner wisdom and voice. My approach is one that looks to celebrate and highlight our individual differences and uniqueness. To help disrupt the story and build confidence. With open dialogue and clear, effective communication. I meet people where they are and help them to find what works for them and what doesn’t. I like to create lasting, meaningful relationships and a space for growth, vulnerability and inspiration.
